Description

Powell, Thomas. The Attornies Almanacke. London: Printed by Bernard Alsop and Thomas Fawcet for Benjamin Fisher, 1627.

Thomas Powell (d. c.1635) composed this slim, practical work to provide procedural guidance to attorneys seeking to remove causes from the provincial inferior courts to the higher central courts at Westminster, whose administration of justice was perceived to be of higher quality and less partial. Only one edition of the work was published, but the tract was often presented with Powell's longer work, The Attourney's Academy (1623), a general handbook on legal practice. This copy is signed by an early twentieth century owner.
