Description

Crompton, Richard. L’authoritie et Iurisdiction des Courts de la Maiestie de la Roygne. Londini: in aedibus Caroli Yetsweirti Armig., 1594.

Although admitted to the Middle Temple in 1553, Richard Crompton (c.1529-c.1599) preferred his private studies to practice, devoting his time to the creation of several law books, principally L’authoritie et Iurisdiction des Courts de la Majestie de la Roygne. The first book on English law to focus exclusively on the royal courts, the work is divided into 23 sections, each devoted to a different court, and serves as a guide to the court system. This first edition, from 1594, was the first book printed by law printer Charles Yetsweirt.
