Description

Rastell, William. Registrum Omnium Brevium. Londini: in aedibus Ianae Yetsweirt relictae Caroli Yetsweirt Ar. nuper defuncti, 1595.

The son of London printer John Rastell, William Rastell (c. 1508-1565) took over his father’s business and published a collection of forms of law writs in 1531 under the title Registrum Omnium Brevium. As the title indicates, this work was an attempt to print all the writs on file with the Chancery Court, building off the work of many prior manuscript collections of writs, each titled Registrum Brevium. This 1595 edition, the third of Rastell’s collection, is particularly notable as it was printed by Jane Yetsweirt, who had taken over the printing business of her husband Charles earlier that year, making this one of the first law books printed by a woman.
