Description
Some of the challenges to a robust open access repository typically take the form of copyright, contracts, and licensing. There are many subtle areas where confusion, myth, and misinformation can prevent a repository from fulfilling its core mission. Some of these are contractually based (interpreting licensing/contract provisions, what is an author's "personal website," mandates vs. policies), some are copyright based (nonexclusive rights in the U.S. opposed to the U.K., working papers versus final manuscripts), and other are language based - the language of the law versus the language of the publisher. This session will review some of these issues, give and overview of copyright's interaction with a repository policy, and look to find solutions through audience participation and interaction. Final answers to this topic? Not certain. Thought-provoking conversation? Guaranteed.
