Description

Cook, Lyman E. Comics in the Law. Chicago: Universal Publishers, 1938.

This book is a compilation of the author's radio broadcast Freak Laws, which ran in the 1930s on CBS and KMOX in St. Louis. Intended to be lighthearted, the book presents short summaries of laws the author found humorous. It reflects the long history of sexism with snippets such as, "Nilwood, Illinois makes it mandatory for all women to wear petticoats made of a heavy material," and "It is a misdemeanor for a girl to telephone a man, asking him for a date, in Dyersburg, Tennessee."
