Description
Review of the Testimony Given Before the General Court-Martial: Upon the Trial of Brig. General George Talcott, in June and July 1851, and of the Proceedings of the Court. Albany: J. Munsell, 1851.
General Talcott was Chief of Ordnance of the U.S. Army from 1848-1851. In 1851, he was relieved of his duties and court-martialed at the direction of the Secretary of War, Charles Conrad, over a dispute awarding munitions contracts to a Southern contractor. Many people thought the facts of the case did not justify such a severe verdict, but despite the efforts of several members of the U.S. Senate, the verdict was not reversed.
