Description

Francis Hopkinson was a U.S. founding father and signer of the Declaration of Independence. From 1779-89 he served as judge of the Admiralty Court of Pennsylvania. In December 1780 he was impeached on allegations of accepting bribes in exchange for appointments, accepting payment from litigants, and trading in false certificates. He was put on trial but acquitted of the charges and remained in office.
