    As noted in the inscription, this list of signatures includes all judges, reporters, and clerks who served in the inaugural term of the Virginia Court of Appeals, established in 1985. The Court of Appeals of Virginia was created to increase the appellate capacity of the court system and expedite appellate review. Barbara Keenan (sixth from top) was the first woman to serve on all levels of the Virginia court system. Richard A. Williamson (eleventh from top) held various roles at William & Mary Law School--including faculty, dean, and chancellor--from 1970 to 2007.
