Donald Lemons served as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Virginia from 2015 to 2021. He started his career as a probation officer in Richmond, attended law school at the University of Virginia, and began practicing law in 1978. He was appointed as a judge of the Circuit Court in Richmond by Governor George Allen in 1995. In this role, Lemons established Virginia’s “drug court,” which used probation-supervision sentences that included substance abuse treatment, mental health counseling, and job training.
