Description
"Richard T. Ely 1921, Wm H Taft"
William Howard Taft served as President of the United States from 1909 to 1913 and Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court from 1921 to 1930. During his presidency, Taft maintained a policy of nonintervention in European affairs. By 1915, Taft was president of the League to Enforce Peace and supported Woodrow Wilson’s later proposal to establish the League of Nations. This copy of Taft Papers on the League of Nations, originally in the library’s regular circulating collection, was discovered to have Taft’s signature by chance. It is now part of the rare books Signed Collection. The book is a collection of Taft’s speeches and articles related to the League of Nations and foreign policy.
