Description
"To: The Marshall-Wythe School of Law ~ In the spirit of Jefferson -- Davis Y. Paschall August, 1991"
Davis Paschall is best known for his appointments as Superintendent of Public Instruction in Virginia between 1957 and 1960 and as President of William & Mary between 1960 and 1971. Paschall’s term as Superintendent occurred during “Massive Resistance” to desegregation, when the state passed a group of laws to prevent integration of the schools. While he led the state’s public schools during Massive Resistance, his signature is also present in the Report of the Commission on Constitutional Revision, which recommended an expansion of voting rights. This biography of Paschall includes a dedication to the William & Mary Law School from Paschall himself and notes his admiration of Thomas Jefferson.
