This volume is a sixth edition of the first full-length biography of Dolley Madison (1768-1849), edited by her great-niece Lucia Cutts. Dolley Madison was the daughter of a Virginia planter, who moved the family to Philadelphia when she was nearly an adult. She married a lawyer, who died soon afterward in the 1793 yellow fever epidemic. She then married James Madison. Dolley Madison is best known for her service as First Lady during her husband's presidential administration and her bravery in the British invasion of Washington, D.C. during the War of 1812.
