<p>In the October Revolution of 1917 Vladmir Lenin and the Bolsheviks overthrew the Russian Provisional Government that had earlier overthrown the Russian Empire and the Romanov Family. A five-year Russian Civil War followed, and in 1922 the Soviet Union was formed. This version of the Constitution was adopted in 1936 and is known as “Stalin’s Constitution”. War is highlighted and glorified in Articles 131 through 133, which requires military service and support of war as “an honorable duty” and “the sacred duty of every citizen of the U.S.S.R.” </p>
