<p>This book, written by Virginian Mary Johnston, was one of the bestselling fiction books of 1902. Its publication followed that of Johnston's best remembered work, <em>To Have and To Hold</em> (1900). Johnston was a suffragist and imparted feminist ideals into her novels. <em>Audrey</em> is one of several novels that Johnston set in colonial Virginia.</p>
