<p>This is a speech sponsored by the Hollywood Memorial Association, the Ladies Memorial Association (LMA) affiliated with Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond. LMA's were groups of white women who created Confederate cemeteries following the Civil War. Their purpose was partly to retain a common Confederate identity throughout the South and transform their military loss into political and cultural victory. In the year prior, the Hollywood Memorial Association reinterred 3,000 Confederate dead from the Gettysburg battlefield. They would soon build the famous Pyramid monument to Confederate soldiers.</p>
