<p>This translation of Hindu laws covers the governance of a kingdom through adherence to the principles of Hinduism. The seventh chapter discusses government, law, and the military class together. The text explains that a king is given divine power to “justly inflict punishment on all those who act unjustly towards him” (161). A just and humble king may do this through the use of the military; it was expected for kings to wage war and commit violence, but only through the lens of acting in a just and legal manner.</p>
