<p> This book is a history of the border between the U.S. and Mexico from the Mexican-American War (1846-1848) through the 1980’s. Much of the book is a military history, recounting wars and raids in the border region between the U.S., Mexico, Spain, France, and Indigenous Peoples of the area. Historically, Mexico was relatively politically and economically unstable, making it a target for invasion and military intervention multiple times in the 19th century. Violence in the border region has escalated between the time of publication and present day, largely due to the U.S. “War on Drugs.” </p>
<p>Author Leon Metz died of complications from COVID-19 in 2020.</p>
