<p><strong>Joseph Chitty</strong> (1796-1838) was a lawyer and son of Joseph Chitty the elder (1775-1841). His work, known as <em>Chitty on Contracts</em> (1826), is a practical treatise, published for practicing attorneys as well as law students. It is a reference work that outlines the elementary aspects of the law of contracts, incorporating American caselaw and topics of importance.</p>
