Jabez Gridley Sutherland (1825-1902) was a politician and judge. He studied law in New York before moving to Michigan, where he eventually became a state court judge. Sutherland also served in the United States House of Representatives. His treatise discusses damages as an expanding area of law, incorporating contemporary cases for use by students and practitioners. It covers general principles of damages, pleadings and procedure, and recovery. It also demonstrates the application of those principles as they relate to tort and contract laws.
